More than 1,500 standard military trucks will be delivered to the Canadian Armed Forces, including at least 300 at the Valcartier military base.
The new trucks, built by Mack Defense, will be used to replace the existing vehicle fleet that was acquired in the 1980s and is nearing the end of its useful life. 450 trucks are destined for Quebec only, of which about 300 are at the Valcartier military base.
This is an investment of $ 834 million according to the Minister of Family, Children and Social Development, Jean-Yves Duclos, who made the announcement at a press briefing Monday morning at the base of Valcartier.
The new vehicles will be equipped with 8-wheel drive compared to 6 for the old fleet. There will also be five variants to these trucks passing from the regular transport vehicle to those of transport with material handling crane. Cabs can also be converted into armored cabs for use in hazardous environments.
Nearly 10 new vehicles have already been delivered to Valcartier to date and delivery will continue in 2019.
